Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO & President: Shuichi Yoshimura; “Dynamic Map Platform”), hosted a high-impact workshop in Frankfurt, Germany, on February 18, 2026, bringing together leading aviation and mobility stakeholders to explore how their platform VIPS* can transform airport ground handling operations.

Held both onsite and online, the session spotlighted cutting-edge approaches to improving safety, efficiency, and automation on the airport apron – one of the most complex operational environments in aviation.

Scenes from the workshop

The workshop forms part of Dynamic Map Platform’s ongoing participation in Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) “FY 2025 International Rule Formation and Market Creation Type Standardization Promotion Project.” Building on its selection in FY2024, the company is working alongside global industry bodies to advance international standards for dynamic map specifications – critical infrastructure for autonomous mobility.

The workshop drew strong participation from across the aviation ecosystem, including Fraport, Kassel Airport, Lufthansa German Airlines, Lufthansa LEOS, Ljubljana Airport, and The House of Logistics and Mobility (HOLM). This diverse group enabled rich cross-regional dialogue between Japan and Europe.

Discussions focused on shared operational challenges in ground handling and how Dynamic Map Platform’s technologies – particularly “VIPS*,” its dynamic map-based airport information platform – can address them. Participants explored real-world applications, from mitigating blind spots beyond the reach of conventional sensors to supporting both automated and human-led operations amid ongoing labour shortages.

Feedback from attendees underscored the technology’s potential:

  • “VIPS significantly enhances safety by covering areas traditional sensors cannot detect.”
  • “It offers a strong foundation for both automation and workforce support in increasingly resource-constrained environments.”

Japan’s leadership in autonomous driving trials at airports also attracted strong interest, positioning these use cases as highly relevant models for European adoption.

Building on the momentum from this workshop, Dynamic Map Platform will explore opportunities to deepen collaboration with international partners, consider potential pilot initiatives, and continue advancing efforts toward global standardization. We remain committed to advancing safer, more efficient airport operations—and unlocking the full potential of autonomous mobility worldwide.

*VIPS (Various Information Port System): An information integration platform that aggregates various dynamic map data within the airport (including static information such as areas closed to traffic due to construction or broken-down vehicles, as well as dynamic information such as the locations of aircraft and vehicles).
