Dynamic Map Platform Axyz Co., Ltd. (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO & President: Hiromichi Amagai; “Axyz”), a group company of Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO & President: Shuichi Yoshimura; “Dynamic Map Platform”), will carry out field testing of its snow removal support system “SRSS,” which makes use of High-Precision 3D Maps, from Thursday, February 20 to Monday, March 31, 2025 on the Hakkoda-Towada Gold Line (National Route 103) in Aomori Prefecture.
The Hakkoda-Towada Gold Line is closed during the winter, and the Hakkoda Snow Removal Team, made up of local general contractors, carries out snow removal operations to open it in the spring. When the operation starts, the team estimate the location of the route by measuring from the top of the snow, and work on unmarked segments goes ahead based on the experience and intuition of veteran operators. However, issues have arisen, including a lack of successors due to the difficulty of passing down these skills, and the safety of the operations themselves.
The SRSS supplied by Axyz provides guidance by projecting high-precision snowplow location information onto High-Precision 3D Maps that show information about the roads buried in the snow, including the shoulder edge and structures on the road, with high accuracy. With this, it is possible for operations to be carried out safely and smoothly, even without markers. This testing will verify improvements to the safety of snow removal operations and their efficiency, with the goals of reducing operation times and contributing to passing on techniques, aiming to reduce the burdens of and secure responsible parties for the Hakkoda Snow Removal Team, who act as protectors of the area.

<About the snow removal support system “SRSS”>
The SRSS is a service customized by Axyz for snow removal operations, and combines Dynamic Map Platform’s HD Maps (High-Precision 3D Maps), also used for autonomous driving, with RTK positioning,* which can estimate a person’s location with high accuracy. It supports safe and smooth snow removal operations by making shoulders, manholes, and other structures hidden under the snow “visible” on a tablet while understanding the vehicle’s position through high-precision location information from a GNSS receiver.
