I have been working in the automotive industry for many years, and I feel heartbroken every time I see news of a tragic automobile accident. The majority of accidents are caused by mistakes in a driver’s perception, judgment, or operation of the vehicle. If all vehicles were equipped with high-precision 3D map data and could utilize it to control how they drove, turned, and stopped, it would be much safer than driving based on the driver’s visual perception, and many accidents could be prevented.
In my role as Program Director of Phase 1 of the SIP Automated Driving System project, I was invloved in the establishment of Dynamic Map Platform Co., Ltd. (DMP). I strongly believe that the use of high-precision 3D map information will continue to become more widely used for various applications such as autonomous driving vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems, as well as in fields such as road maintenance and logistics support. I look forward to continuing this work with DMP as we use our map data to contribute to the creation of new innovation.
